These units are designed to produce an extremely uniform system for the transfer of proteins and nucleic acids. The very low buffer volume and current, 0.8mA per cm2 of gel, produces very little heat, preventing band distortion. Transfers can be achieved in less than one hour, depending on the molecular weight of the molecules to transfer. Either single gels or multiple gel stacks can be used with the units.
The units are manufactured from rugged acrylic components and are built to comply with all the statutory safety regulations. One electrode is manufactured from stainless steel and the other from platinised titanium, therefore making them virtually corrosion-free. This prevents deposits being placed on the membrane and the electrodes will last almost indefinitely as they will not deteriorate.

The Scie-Plas Capillary Blotting Unit features a permanent optimised wick system which eliminates the use of traditional overhanging filter wicks. This new system draws up more fluid than conventional systems, thus ensuring faster and more even blots. Hoefer Immunoblot systems enable you to perform multiple antibody or probe incubations on a single membrane, using microliter volumes of reagent. The 13 cm x 13 cm membrane size works for membranes transferred from SE600 Chroma, and other standard size, gels. Typical applications include antibody screening, western blots, animal and human serum screening, and DNA probe hybridizations.
